Tenancy databases - proposed changes
The Residential Tenancies and Rooming Accommodation Amendment Bill was introduced into the Queensland Parliament on 10 May 2011. The main purpose of the Bill was to introduce additional measures regarding tenancy database listings, so that Queensland laws are consistent with laws being introduced nationally.
It was considered by the Community Affairs Committee of the Queensland Parliament and their report on the Bill was tabled in Parliament on 17 November 2011. The Committee unanimously recommended that the Bill be passed.
The Bill lapsed when Queensland Parliament dissolved with the Queensland State Election. The RTA will seek the Minister’s approval to reintroduce the Bill as part of our obligation to introduce national uniform legislation.
What are residential tenancy databases?
Residential tenancy databases are commercial electronic databases that contain information about a person's tenancy history.
Most real estate agents subscribe to one or more of the databases, using them to evaluate prospective tenants.
