Mr Smith was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of the Residential Tenancies Authority in August 2006. From 2002, he was the Manager of RTA's Corporate and Investigations Services division. Prior to joining the RTA he held a range of senior management positions in the Department of Housing in areas including policy, strategic planning, research, performance management, housing system initiatives and community housing. He has also been Director of Client Services for the Queensland Treasury Corporation and worked at Queensland TAFE.

The RTA delivers its services through 6 divisions.

Client Contact Services offer a free telephone information service for tenants, lessors, agents, residents and accommodation providers.

Corporate Services - Executive Manager

Corporate Services provides internal service and support to the RTA through human resources, finance, business improvement, information technology, recordkeeping, legal services and facilities management.

Dispute Resolution Services - Executive Manager

The RTA offers a free conciliation service to assist tenants and lessors/agents resolve disputes quickly and without the need for further legal action.

Policy and Education Services - Executive Manager

Policy and Education Services includes policy advice communication, education, research and investigations.

Rental Bond Services - Executive Manager

Rental Bond Services provide a rental bond service including the processing of all bond lodgements and refunds.

The Core Client Services Program is responsible for investigating, sourcing and facilitating the implementation of new business capabilities to enable the RTA to deliver rapid, flexible and integrated services to our clients.
