Rent and other payments
A tenant/resident pays rent for the period of the tenancy agreement. The amount of rent and how it should be paid will be detailed in the tenancy agreement.
In addition to rent, if specified in the tenancy agreement, the tenant/resident may also have to pay for electricity, gas or water.
- The tenant may need to arrange to have these services connected, and may have to pay a security deposit to the supply company
- The lessor/agent pays for rates, property insurance and land tax.
- The tenant pays for contents (possessions) insurance, if required.

A tenant may be charged for water if the property is individually
metered (or water is delivered by vehicle) and the rental premises is
water efficient.
