Dispute resolution request Form 16

The purpose of the Dispute resolution request (Form 16) is to advise the RTA that there is a dispute and request assistance in resolving the dispute.

The RTA's Dispute Resolution Service can help people resolve disputes if they are unable to reach agreement themselves.

The form can be completed by any party to the tenancy agreement.

You should first speak to the other party to try to resolve the dispute. If this is unsuccessful, complete the form and send it to the RTA. 

After the RTA receives the request, both parties will be contacted. It may take just a few phone calls. If required, a meeting or a telephone hook-up between both parties can be arranged. A Dispute Resolution Officer will participate in the discussions to assist the parties in reaching an agreement.

If the dispute cannot be resolved, the RTA will issue a Notice of unresolved dispute. This allows an application for a hearing to be made to the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal.

The RTA encourages lessors, agents and tenants to attempt to resolve disputes themselves. This is done by:

  • talking to each other
  • finding out about rights and responsibilities under the Residential Tenancies and Rooming Accommodation Act 2008
  • sharing information
