Lessors information

A landlord is a person who owns a premises and rents it out to a tenant. It is referred to as a Lessor in the Residential Tenancies and Rooming Accommodation Act 2008.

The RTA publication Managing general tenancies in Queensland contains information for managers of general tenancies and helps them understand their rights and responsibilities when managing rental accommodation, such as houses and units, in Queensland.

Lessors who manage their own properties need to familiarise themselves with the legislation.

A lessor who employs an agent to manage their property should also be familiar with the Property Agents and Motor Dealers Act 2000 and the relevant Regulation.

When managing a rental property, there are forms that must be used at various stages of the process. Information is available throughout this site about the processes and forms needed for each stage of a tenancy.

Signing up for our newsletter Open House for lessors, agents and property managers will help keep you informed about the latest news and issues on renting in Queensland.

The RTA runs information workshops throughout Queensland for property managers and new and experienced lessors.

The Median rents page has information on the median rent levels for various property types across Queensland.
