In 2002, the nine successful projects were chosen from a field of 21 applications requesting total funding of more than $181,000.
Celebrating the five years since the grants were introduced, the RTA supported the following projects in 2002.
- Pormpuraaw Community Council - $10,000 to employ a worker to assist with organising a public meeting, conducting housing surveys and undertaking a series of house visits. Brochures and flyers are to be produced.

The Brisbane Indigenous Media Association Inc. received $9,965 to develop 12 five minute audio segments on issues relating to Indigenous housing.

Caboolture Family Haven - $9,435 to run 5 workshops aimed at providing information about the Act. There will be 8 school education sessions for Year 11/12 students and workshops for self managing lessors and people wishing to provide share accommodation to single people.

Capricorn Youth Accommodation Service Inc - $9,600 to develop visual aids to explain the tenancy process to young people.

Tableland Community Housing Association Inc - $4,500 to deliver a series of workshops, which will educate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and youth workers about support services.

Logan and Neighbouring Areas Regional Tenants Association Inc - $5,200 to train 10 youth workers from different agencies about the legal issues relating to tenancies.

Caloundra Youth Focus - $5,900 to establish a representative action group who will establish a peer support and education program to teach young people about their rights and responsibilities as tenants. They will also produce information packs.

Sesia Island Council - to organise a community workshop, which will be promoted in the local media. The workshop will educate people about property management requirements, tenant rights and responsibilities, and health and safety issues.

Multicultural Development Association Inc - to train 4 bilingual workers to conduct information sessions and cross-cultural workshops for real estate agents.
