• Sort and start packing your possessions – throw away or donate to charity items that you no longer want.
• Organise boxes/removal items to help with packing.
• Book a removalist or hire truck (or family/friends).
• Contact your utility providers to disconnect electricity/gas/internet for your last day.
• Place all your important documents and relevant tenancy paperwork in an easy to access folder.
• Check your tenancy agreement – are there any special terms you need to consider?
• Make a list of people and organisations you need to contact when you move to update your details with your new address.

• Start cleaning, including carpet cleaning if needed.

• Have you got the paperwork and keys to the new place you are moving to?
• Have you organised the reconnection of electricity/gas/internet for your new place?
• Consider packing a box/bag of essential items that will go with you on your last day.
• Keep your important document folder handy – check you have your entry condition report,  tenancy agreement, and any notices.
• If engaging professional cleaners/tradeperson, confirm the appointment time.
• If you have booked a removalist, confirm appointment time.
• Check your rental payments. Have you paid to your vacating date? Do you need to cancel any automatic debit payment with your bank?
• If you had a general tenancy agreement, complete the Exit condition report (Form 14a). For moveable dwelling agreements, use the Exit condition report (Form 14b). Think about what may not be considered fair wear and tear. Exit condition reports don’t need to be completed for rooming accommodation.
• If there was an agreement to attach fixtures or make structural changes during the tenancy, you may need to consider the terms of this agreement when completing the exit condition report.
• What is the process for the vacate inspection? Contact your property manager/owner. Limits apply to entry frequency after a Notice to Leave (Form 12) or Notice of intention to leave (Form 13) is issued. For more information visit our Entry to the property web page.   
• Have your rental bond number from the RTA handy. You will need this to interact with the RTA when your tenancy has ended.

• Finalise the cleaning or any repairs.
• Gather all the keys/remotes/access cards to hand over.  
• Do a thorough check of the rental property again to make sure you haven’t missed anything – inside and outside.
• Complete the exit condition report (unless you're in rooming accommodation) and take photos.
• If you pay for water consumption, there may be one last reading and bill to pay.
• Vacate inspection.
• Bond refund - the quickest and easiest way to get your bond back is an agreed refund by you and your property manager/owner through the RTA’s Bond Refund Web Service. 

Important: do not claim the bond until the vacate/handover date.
