Dispute resolution (tenants)

'What happens in dispute resolution?'

Need to know

  • the most common type of conciliation is a 3-way phone conference (face-to-face meetings are also possible)
  • you need to present your own case
  • have all relevant documents (e.g. bills, emails, photos)
  • RTA conciliators do not determine who is right or wrong
  • what is said in conciliation is not admissible in court or QCAT proceedings
  • if the problem cannot be resolved during conciliation you may be able to take the matter to QCAT

Good to know

  • good communication is the key to resolving problems
  • be prepared to negotiate and actively participate in the session
  • try to be factual and practical
  • this is your final chance to self resolve, if the matter goes to QCAT the outcome will be decided for you
