Service of court documents

You can serve court documents on the Residential Tenancies Authority (RTA) in person, using a service agent, or via post or email (unless personal service is required by law).

For production of document requests, please see our right to information page.

If a document is served on a person after 4:00pm, the document is taken to have been served on the next day under the Uniform Civil Procedure Rules 1999. This also applies to emails received after 4:00pm.

Service by email

Please email court documents to our authorised email address for service by email.

We strongly encourage the use of email for service of subpoenas and summonses.

Service by post

Please address postal correspondence to:

Residential Tenancies Authority
c/o- Legal Services
GPO Box 390

If you serve by post, please be mindful of Australia Post's delivery timeframes and allow additional time in case of delivery delays.
