With caravan park managers reporting an increase in rental enquiries, the Residential Tenancies Authority (RTA) was pleased to present at the annual Caravan Parks Association of Queensland (CPAQ) conference held on the Gold Coast recently.
The event attracted attendees from across Queensland who had the opportunity to hear from expert panels and speakers about regulation, innovation and management relevant to the caravan park sector. The RTA welcomed the opportunity to provide tailored information to the sector and be part of the conference.
Our presentation and Q&A
The RTA was represented by Lynn Smith and Sam Galer, both of whom are part of the Housing Legislation Implementation team. They presented a breakout session that provided attendees with an opportunity to learn about recent rental law changes and current topics relevant to the caravan park sector and industry stakeholders.
After the presentation, Lynn and Sam held a Q&A session where they responded to questions about:
- the rental application process
- responsibilities of caravan park managers
- different types of tenancy agreements (including short-term tenancy agreements)
- the 12-month limit on rent increases
- ending a tenancy
- natural disasters
- Queensland Digital Identity (QDI) which has replaced QGov.
Information for caravan park managers
Caravan park managers are reporting an increase in rental enquiries due to some tenants and residents having trouble finding affordable accommodation in houses or units.
With prospective tenants seeking alternatives like moveable dwellings and cabins in caravan parks, it’s important for everyone to understand their rights and responsibilities.
The HLA team is currently working on updating the suite of booklets for managing parties following recent rental law changes. This includes the Managing caravan park tenancies in Queensland publication and Caravan park (moveable dwelling) fact sheets.
