The Pocket guide for tenants – houses and units (Form 17a) is for tenants who live in houses, flats, units, townhouses and houseboats. It includes information tenants will need while renting in Queensland and explains their rights and responsibilities under the legislation.
This guide must be provided to a tenant before they lease a property.
The guide is available below in eight other languages: Arabic, Japanese, Korean, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Spanish, and Vietnamese.
The guide has been prepared by the Residential Tenancies Authority (RTA). The RTA administers the residential tenancy laws in Queensland and helps make renting work for everyone by providing:
- tenancy information and support
- management of rental bonds
- dispute resolution
- investigation and enforcement
- educational outreach services.
You can access support from the RTA by calling 1300 366 311 (within Australia) or +61 7 3224 1600 (outside Australia), Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm AEST. You may access a free interpreter service when you call this number.
Important: Users of RTA forms should ensure they are accessing the latest published versions. Forms must be updated from time to time, such as when legislation changes.
