Electrical safety in rental properties – what you need to know

Update

Rental law changes introducing minimum housing standards came into effect for new tenancies (including renewed tenancy agreements) from 1 September 2023, and will come into effect for all remaining tenancies on 1 September 2024.

The Residential Tenancies Authority (RTA) has teamed with the Electrical Safety Office (ESO) to provide critical information and electrical safety tips for owners, managers and tenants. Under Queensland laws, both property owners and tenants have responsibilities for electrical safety in a rental property.  Learn practical information for safety switches and what to do if the circuit breaker is tripped.
